Operating principle and selection criteria

Pilot-operated or direct-acting

Pilot-operated diaphragm valves use the medium pressure to open and close and therefore require a minimum pressure differential – the series MV1355–MV1367 and MV1381–MV1387 work on this principle. Direct-acting diaphragm valves such as the MV1411–MV1415 series expressly require no minimum operating pressure according to the data sheet and therefore work from 0 bar – the right choice for unpressurised lines, drain lines and applications with low inlet pressure.

De-energised closed or open

De-energised closed (MV1355–MV1367, MV1411–MV1415) means: if the power fails, the valve shuts – the safe normal position for feed and dosing lines. De-energised open (MV1381–MV1387) keeps the line open in the event of a power failure, which makes sense for cooling and relief lines.

Media and limit values

The valves shut off gaseous and liquid media provided these are compatible with the materials used – typically water, compressed air and gas oil. NBR is used as the sealing material, in individual series NBR in combination with PA. The medium temperature ranges from −10 °C to +90 °C, and individual versions are approved up to +140 °C; the operating pressure differential is up to 16 bar depending on the series. At sub-zero temperatures it must be noted that freezing medium can damage the valve.

Installation and approvals

All series are of compact construction, can be mounted in any installation position and have standard-compliant connections. The solenoid coils achieve protection class IP65; the MV1383–MV1387 series is additionally ATEX-compliant and meets RoHS. Typical fields of application are industrial automation and heating technology.
