Backflow preventers

Standard-compliant drinking water protection with backflow preventers and high-performance RPZ valves

Armaturenfabrik Backflow preventers RPZ valve BA-300 Resideo - with backflow preventer on the inlet and outlet side. 3 ball valves, drain valve and flange made of ductile iron, with flanged connection for drinking water protection to DIN EN 1717.

Backflow preventers are indispensable components for protecting drinking water installations. They prevent the backpressure, backflow and backsiphonage of non-drinking water into the supply network and meet the requirements of DIN EN 1717. Our selection includes compact backflow preventers for category 3 and RPZ valves for category 4, ideal for use in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

Integration in SKID systems

We not only supply backflow preventers as individual components, but also integrate them into modular SKID systems. These preconfigured system solutions combine valves, piping, measurement and control technology into compact, ready-to-install units.

Typical areas of application for SKID systems with RPZ valves:

  • Chemical and pharmaceutical processes
  • Energy and power plants
  • Water treatment and food industry

This gives you a solution that combines safety, efficiency and flexibility – ideal for projects with high hygiene and process control requirements.

Fluid categories and selection to DIN EN 1717

Backflow preventers and RPZ valves protect drinking water installations against backpressure, backflow and back-siphonage. Which backflow prevention device is permissible depends on the fluid category of the downstream system in accordance with DIN EN 1717.

Category 3

Category 3 covers fluids presenting a low health hazard. The R295 backflow preventer of type GA is used here: compact in construction, with optimised flow routing and therefore a low pressure loss at high flow rates. Available in the connection sizes R ½”, ¾”, 1″, 1¼”, 1½” and 2″, body and connection fittings in gunmetal, permissible medium temperature up to 40 °C.

Category 4

Category 4 covers fluids presenting an increased health hazard, for instance through additives. The BA300 RPZ valve of type BA is designed for this. Its body in powder-coated ductile iron and its consistently lead-free materials provide corrosion resistance and a long service life. It is supplied with a flanged connection in DN 65 to DN 200, and the drain pipe connection is DN 150. The maximum operating pressure is 10 bar and the permissible medium temperature 65 °C (60 °C under WRAS).

Installation

Both types are installed in a horizontal pipe – the BA300 with the relief valve pointing downwards, the R295 with the spring bonnet pointing downwards. The permissible ambient temperature is 5 °C to 55 °C; the installation location must be frost-free and well ventilated and must have a drainage connection that complies with the standard.

Note on selection: a backflow prevention device for a higher category always covers the lower ones as well – the reverse does not apply. In systems with mixed use, the highest category occurring is decisive.
