Flow-through sight glasses VK14 & VK16

Flow indicator for steam/condensate with borosilicate glass and optional heating jacket.

Data sheet

Product information

The GESTRA sight glass Vaposkop® type VK serves for visual monitoring of flow processes in pipelines, particularly upstream of steam traps. It permits the detection of steam losses or condensate backup and thus contributes to operational reliability and energy efficiency. The devices are robust, maintenance-free and suitable for use in potentially explosive areas.

Special features

  • VK14: body in straight-through pattern, borosilicate glass, for media ≤ pH 9, PN16
  • VK16: body in straight-through pattern, borosilicate glass, for media ≤ pH 10, PN40
  • With a drip nose as standard for indicating the smallest flows
  • Optional: mica discs for higher temperatures (up to 300°C)
  • Keine beweglichen Teile → wartungsfrei
  • Installation position: horizontal or vertical (note the flow direction)
  • Materials:
Body: grey cast iron (VK14), cast steel/stainless steel (VK16)
    Schauglas: MAXOS® Borosilikatglas DIN 7080
    Dichtungen: Graphit/CrNi
    Schrauben: verzinkt or Edelstahl

Advantages

  • VK 14 in PN 16, VK 16 in PN 40
  • Opposing sight glasses in borosilicate glass
  • Keine beweglichen Teile – wartungsarm
  • VK 14 for media up to pH 9, VK 16 up to pH 10

Versions

  • VK14: Flansch EN 1092-1 B1, PN16
  • VK16: Flansch EN 1092-1 B1, PN40 / ASME Class 150/300,
  • Threaded socket ISO 228-1 (G), NPT, socket weld DIN EN 12760 / ASME B16.11
  • Nominal sizes: DN15–DN50 (½”–2″)

Areas of application

  • Visual monitoring of steam and condensate
  • Medien the Fluidgruppe 2
  • Nominal sizes DN 15 to DN 50
  • Applications up to 300 °C with mica discs

Selection and installation

The pH value decides the series: the VK 14 is approved for media up to pH 9, the VK 16 up to pH 10 – borosilicate glass is attacked by alkalis. From 300 °C mica discs must be provided.

Sight glasses installation in SKID systems

Sight glasses are indispensable components for process monitoring in modular SKID systems. They enable the direct visual inspection of flow, fill level and media quality in pipes and containers – a decisive factor for operational safety and quality assurance.

Our solutions for SKID systems:

  • Compact design: Ideal for modular systems with limited space.
  • Flexible connection types: flanged, threaded or welded connections to DIN EN 1092, ISO 228-1 or ASME.
  • Variety of materials: stainless steel for hygienic applications, cast steel for standard processes, special materials for aggressive media.
  • Optional equipment: heating jacket for viscous media, mica disks for high temperature ranges, sight glasses for dark environments.
  • Standard-compliant production: PED-compliant, ATEX-compliant, tested in accordance with DIN 7080 (borosilicate glass).
